Yvonne Perkins

My goal of becoming a leading member in the Horticulture profession has been progressing at a rapid pace here at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Some of the challenges I have been able to overcome in pursuit of my degree in horticulture include working two part-time jobs, English as my second language, and performing caretaking duties for my husband (disabled veteran) while attending school full time.

Despite these challenges, I have managed to make the President’s list with a 4.0 GPA and become a member of the prestigious National Technical Honor Society. I am also a member of the NC Wine Growers and the NC Landscape and Nurseryman’s Association. Passing the NC State exams to obtain my pesticide licenses was extremely challenging but has allowed me to become an even more productive member of the helping coordinate many of the club’s events. I will graduate from the program later this summer and begin working fulltime in the horticulture industry.
